Geological Survey. INTRODUCTION. The area described in this report is located near Clarno, Oregon, and lies on both sides of the John Day River. It includes some 15 square miles east of the river in Wheeler County and about b square miles west of it in Wasco Countyo A well drilled by the Clarno Oil Company to a depth of over feet on Pine Creek about 2 miles east of the Clarno bridge, occupies aFile Size: 1MB.

Outcropping widely throughout central Oregon, the Early to Middle Eocene aged Clarno Formation includes around m of deposits. It consists of both volcanic rocks and volcanogenic sedimentary rocks, ranging in age from approximately 54 to 39 Ma.
